YOUNGSTERS from three Pontefract schools are taking part in a new scheme that aims to inspire children to achieve in further education.
The new ‘Choice’ programme (Children Have Options Imagination Challenge and Experience) aims to introduce pupils in years five and six to positive role models, including police officers, Wakefield College students and business figures.
Cobblers Lane Primary School, De Lacy Primary School and Rookeries Carleton J&I have joined the scheme, run by Carleton Community High School and Wakefield College.
Pupils from De Lacy Primary School attended the launch event at Castleford’s Skills Xchange last week.
Rob Foreman, Carleton Community High School’s headteacher, said: “The programme focuses on actions and consequences.
“At the launch pupils began the programme with workshops in construction, mechanics, plumbing, hair and beauty, firefighting and boxing.â€
Pupils from all three schools, which feed into Carleton Community High School, are the first group of ‘Wakefield College cadets’ on the programme created by Annette Gillian, Carleton’s pupil welfare manager.
