Get a respirator if you are working on a 1969 VolksWagen. The paint is lacquer based but VolksWagen used lead filler in the body seams. Hit a seam with your sander and you will be breathing 100% lead dust.

Every summer we're stuck with the same dilemma. We can park the car out in the sun, which will inevitably will lead to scorching hot interior temperatures.
