what is the best cleaning chemical to clean a car windshield?

I have some sort of "film" thats on my car windshield and normal soap and water wont get it off. Is there a good cleaning chemical that will make the glass like new? I get really bad glares when driving because of the "film" on my

get a bag of 000 steel wool at the hardware store and rub the glass down with it as it will take all the impurities off of it.
